Stephen R. Lanza

Lieutenant General Steve Lanza retired from the Army in as the Commanding General of I Corps and Joint Base Lewis McChord. He commanded combat units at every echelon in the Army. As the Commander of JBLM he governed a community comprised of 250,000 service members and civilians. As the Commander of I Corps, he led a values-based combat organization of over 53,000 professionals supporting both global combat operations in the Middle East and regional security operations in the Indo-Pacific theater.
General Lanza served as a senior executive for Raytheon Technologies and is an operational consultant in the private sector. Since his retirement he has applied a broad range of skills from his military service to serve private and public sector clients on national security issues, executive strategy and operational leadership. He currently serves as a Leadership Fellow for the Association of the U.S. Army and has consulted for numerous companies such as Deloitte, The Roosevelt Group and The Chertoff Group. Additionally, he serves on several advisory boards, including Ametrine, Palladyne AI and Powerlight Technologies.
During his extensive military career, General Lanza served on multiple combat deployments as well as on the Army and Joint Staff. Among his commands were the Division Artillery, 1 st Cavalry Division, 5th Brigade Combat Team, 1 st Cavalry Division and the 7th Infantry Division. General Lanza has held numerous key positions to include the Army’s Chief of Public Affairs, Director of Strategic Effects for Multi-National Forces-Iraq, Chief of Operations for the U.S. Army Europe and Director of Joint Requirements and Capabilities for the Joint Staff J8.
His academic credentials include an M.S. in National Security from the National Defense University, an M.S. in Strategic Planning from the School of Advanced Military Studies, an M.P.A. in Public Administration from Central Michigan University, and a B.S. in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy. He has also served as a National Security Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
General Lanza is a Member of the Council of Foreign Relations, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and has an Honorary Doctorate from St. Martins University. He resides in Lakewood WA.
